Bury native, Scott Quigg says he will make Oscar Valdez regret giving him a chance at the WBO featherweight title.

Quigg, who was a champion at super bantamweight has moved up in weight and will face the Mexican in the early hours of Sunday.

Valdez is currently unbeaten, and Quigg has only lost one fight in his career, two years ago to Carl Frampton by split decision.

“Oscar has been billed as the next featherweight star and to be fair he has not put a foot wrong,” said Quigg.

“He is 23-0, 19 knockouts. But when Eddie [Hearn, promoter] got on the phone to me and the fight was offered, I told them to snatch their hands off. This is a fight that excites me.

“I respect Oscar, his team, his trainer – they want to be the best, so you have got to fight the best. This is a voluntary defence. He did not have to pick me, he could have chosen an easier defence.

“So credit to him, but I am going to make sure, on Saturday night, he regrets picking me.”
